1977-04-28 Cleveland Ohio Pure and unadulterated, warts and all (Aud)

 Led Zeppelin
 Richfield Coliseum
 Cleveland, Ohio
 April 28, 1977

Audience Recording > ANA(m) > Cassette (Paul C.) > Cassette > ProTools > FLAC

"A Presence Production" mastered by Jason Peterson. Cassettes provided by Unklejimbo.
Pure and unadulterated, warts and all. Originally mastered at 96kHz 24bit, sample conversion to CD
completed with ProTools utilizing highest quality pre and post filtering and 0.7bit dithering.
I have not had the chance to do much comparison between these tapes and the bootleg releases.
I did not do any fading out between cuts and tape changes, and no cuts were removed or cleaned up.
You hear the tapes as they sound. All the cuts exist for two reasons: the taper was trying to save tape,
and the recording was done on 60 minute (30mins per side) cassettes.
This is one of Zeppelin's best shows from early in the 1977 tour, if not the best. Enjoy the Zeps!

Recorded from the balcony using an Uher tape deck and sennheiser mics. This is an excellent+ audience recording. This is debatably maybe the best sounding audience recording circulating for any zeppelin show. If not the best then at least one of the top 2 or 3 best. This is very similiar soundwise to Copenhagen warmups (TDOLZ).

1989-11-21 - ABWH - Teatro di Palatrussardi - Milano (LDB SS#16)

LDB Special Series #16

Hello! As mentioned, here is a new series from my collection. After the Master Series, here is the Special Series. Out of my 6,000+ shows and radio broadcasts, I have many concerts that were special for some reasons: the setlist, the musicians, the venue or unexpected events. These are the ones I'd like to propose you. Most of these come from my cassettes collection, so they will be released at a slower pace than my Master Series! But you won't be disappointed! I will try to gather the most unusual things I have in my collection and, as always, your feedback and comments will be my reward for all the work involved in this project.

Milton McDonald (Guitars)

This is special for at least two reasons. This is supposed to be one of the earliest live recordings using a DAT device. I remember back at the end of the 80's this friend had acquired a portable DAT for his professional recording studio and it was small enough to be carried to tape shows. You must remember that it was still the time of tapes (and tapes flips when you did not calculate the duration of a song well enough!), analogue technology and a fair amount of hiss on recordings. Plus copying a tape meant altering dramatically the quality of the copy tape. None of that with a DAT: 160+ minutes of un-interrupted music, no hiss, no tape flip. The only problem is that noone had a DAT to play the master, so we were forced to have cassette copies from the master. The quality of this recording has nothing to do with today's digital technology, but you can still hear this is DAT.

The show was also particular in some ways. Unfortunately, the italian dates were set at
the end of the tour and I remember a very cold winter back in 1989. When Jon came onstage with Steve to perform the first couple of acoustic tracks on a medley, everyone could note that his voice was absolutely bad. He just couldn't reach high notes, so he had to manage to sing on a lower register. The audience reacted very well but Jon just couldn't do it.
Because of Jon's illness, several songs were dropped from the setlist, notably Close To The Edge. Actually the setlist was shortened more and more during the italian tour: CTTE was dropped in Torino and Milano, while in Roma many more tracks were dropped; Jon was seriously ill! Jon was very professional and, with the whole audience asking for CTTE, he even consulted Steve to check if it was not possible to drop other tracks in favour of it. I clearly remember seeing Steve shaking his head, so the band had to carry on with Heart of the sunrise. Jon did an extra effort to comeback onstage for the last encore, Sweet Dreams but at the end he was exhausted. After Rome, all the rest of the tour was cancelled and the date in Modena was not played on the 1990 tour.

Boston 1976-09-27 - Cleveland, Oh

Boston: 1976-09-27 Cleveland, Ohio

Venue: Agora Ballroom

Source: Pre-FM (Recorded and broadcast by WMMS)

Lineage: Original, silver CD bootleg on the SuperSonic Lable (99003 SS) ---> EAC ---> WAV ---> FLAC (Level 8)

Band Members:

Lead Vocals & Guitars - Brad Delp

Guitars & Organ - Tom Sholtz

Guitars - Barry Goudreau

Bass & Background Vocals - Fran Sheehan

Drums & Background Vocals - Sib Hashian

Notes:

This show was seeded on DIME some months back, but mine is ripped from the original silver CD pressing.

The SuperSonic bootleg label put out a gem of a product with this show.

Not only is the sound quality out of this world, but the artwork is stunning as well.

There were not many made, but if you ever come across it...snatch it up!

I paid a nice amount of money for mine and I frankly can't believe I'm sharing it here on DIME, but that's what I'm doing.

This show was allegedly taken from the WMMS radio station vaults by a disgruntled employee and sold to the bootleg label.

To that criminal, I have this to say - THANK YOU!  That is the alleged story, whether it's true or not I don't know, but it made it's way out of WMMS somehow.

The performance itself is truly remarkable.  It was recorded only a few weeks into the tour for the debut album and shows a band giving their absolute all.

Brad Delp sounds great!  Sholtz and Goudreau trade leads frequently and the fireworks they create are spectacular.

Bass player Sheehan and drummer Hashian, hold down the grooves well throughout and contribute serviceable background vocals as well.

Considering Sholtz played almost everything on the studio record himself and Delp did lead and background vocals, the parts are covered very well by the live band.

Though, the background vocals can't match 4 or 5 overdubbed Delps.

Highlights include a very early version of "A Man I'll Never Be", (which would later appear on the Don't Look Back album) and a blistering version of "Foreplay/Long Time" as well as a few gems that never made it on their studio albums.

All in all, a hell of a show and one that no Boston fan should be without!
