While we remain deeply saddened by Jared's passing, JEMS' mission of sharing our recordings continues just as he would have wanted.

Jared transferred his own master tapes of this '77 show sometime in the last 12-18 months. The files were on one of several hard drives he gave to me a couple weeks before his passing. His fine recording of this show has been well circulated for decades, but this torrent marks the first ever direct transfer of the master tapes and should be an upgrade to any circulating versions. Samples provided.

To continue dissemination of the JEMS Archive requires friends and we're grateful to Zombiwoof for his help providing post-production support for this release.

Notes:
JEMS master recording and excellent sounding recording. This show captures Starcastle touring in support of their self titled debut album. Dr Feelgood opened this show with Starcastle being the middle act followed by headliner Journey. Of all the 70s american progressive rock bands they are the only ones that sound like an almost clone of Yes right down to vocals but with a more organic and earthy sound to them like fellow american progressive rockers Kansas. Also of note lead singer Terry Luttrell previously sang lead vocals for REO Speedwagon prior to joining Starcastle.

had to use another tape since my 90min tape was full.
So basically what survived was the first tape only."

Recorded on a Sony TC-110A, using the built-in microphone (see http://www.sciencetech.technomuses.ca/english/collection/cassette_rec.cfm). Original cassettes were transferred to a Mac DAW using a
Denon DR-M10HR. The analog signal was first run through: a) a SAE 2800 parametric equalizer to bump the highs slightly and to remove "room boom" at around 80 Hz; & b) a Phase Linear Autocorrelator
to remove hiss & expand the signal (the TC-110A did not have controls for recording; the recorder, designed for dictation, compressed the signal and recorded at a fixed level). Transferred to the
Mac using a MOTU 896. Bias Deck used to splice tape flips & even out volume levels. Bias Peak used to transfer SDII files to WAV files for shn compression. xACT used to fix SBEs & encode to SHNs.
This recording is the one of literally dozens of concerts recorded by Joe Maloney in the late '60s - late '70s to be released to the live recording community. The bulk of the concerts recorded
were in the Boston area, with some in Maine venues.

FZ, Ray White, Patrick O'Hearn, Terry Bozzio, Eddie Jobson, Lady Bianca

In October 1976 Zappa toured with vocalists Ray White and Lady Bianca (another strongly gospel-influenced singer), Eddie Jobson (freed from Roxy Music as Bryan Ferry split for a solo career) on violin and keyboards and the O'Hearn/Bozzio rhythm section.  With so few participants, there was less need for the elaborate arrangements used for larger forces, and the music was exceptionally fluid - the sound wet and live.  The was room for a great deal of spontaneity.

Frank invited Lady Bianca to tour with him as a backing vocalist and pianist but this only lasted a month as she felt uncomfortable singing some of his highly sexual lyrics.

Lady Bianca was in the band when the tour started in Miami on October 16, 1976, and She quit sometime between November 11th-16th '76. The last tape with Bianca is Quebec November 11th and the first without her is Toronto November 16.  She sang "You Didn't Try To Call Me" and "Black Napkins" in virtually every show.

Lady Bianca is featured on “Wind Up Workin’ in a Gas Station” from the Rykodisc Cd “You Can’t Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 6”. Other performances can be found on various Zappa bootlegs.

Dan Lampinski recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. His earliest recordings were made with an internal microphone deck, and though they are somewhat lo-fi compared to his later work, some very great moments in rock history were captured for posterity. In late 1974 he bought a Sony TC-152SD tape recorder, a Sony ECM-99 stereo microphone, and began using Maxell cassettes. He was also fortunate enough to have a friend who provided excellent taping seats for many shows, resulting in high quality recordings. In 1977, he switched over to a Nakamichi 550 tape recorder, two Nakamichi CM-300 microphones, and continued using Maxell cassettes.

He recorded many of the major 70's bands: Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Queen, Blue Oyster Cult, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, ELP, Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Who, Al Stewart, Alice Cooper, Jeff Beck, Bruce Springsteen, Supertramp, Jean-Luc Ponty, Moody Blues, Neil Young, The Faces, Rush, Rick Wakeman, Kansas, as well as several "under the radar" acts.

Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.

Dan was very meticulous about taking good care of his tapes and is very pleased that these recordings will now circulate among the trading community. Please honour his kindness and generosity by sharing these recordings freely.

The transfers are available as 16bit/44.1KHz flac files suitable for CD burning, and also as 24bit/96KHz flac files for those who prefer the higher resolution.

Always remember - the more generous you are with your music, the more it comes back to you.

E.L.P - 1977-07-08 Madison Square Gardens, N.Y.C ( 2nd Gen ) ( Source 1 ) ( DAVROS127 )

Hi to all

Welcome to my series of mostly uncirculated masters & very low generation shows that i recorded or
received in trades in my younger days most of my masters have not been circulated or only traded
once or twice i used to trade a lot in the 70s - 80s & i have many many shows well in excess of 7,500
tapes.
Of these shows about 120 - 150 are  my masters they where always on my trading list but not many
got traded so i boxed them all up in the late 80s now i have decided to go through them  & upload
some of them.
I recorded many bands from Genesis – Bowie – Springsteen  - Hawkwind  - Hackett – Gabriel –
Marillion plus many many others i will try & upload a least one  show a week if not two.
To record theses shows i used a Sony portable hand held tape recorder with built in stereo mics.
I always used good quality tapes to record on mainly T.D.K.
I used to insert the tape deck in a empty coffee flask with the inside taken out of the flask to get past
the security ah those where the days.
The only thing i ask is please don’t sell these recording & don’t convert to mp3 etc & if you do
( only for your own use ).  Please don’t change any of the files or info files etc this is so that people
can tell the difference between this source & other sources as many people like to compare different
versions of shows.
Also please do not remaster these shows the reason for this is these days there are far to many
remasters of shows. Its ok have one remaster etc, but some are remastered that many times by
different people there can be at least 10 different remasters of a show from the same source & it can
get a bit tedious.
PLEASE ALSO DO NOT UPLOAD TO OTHER TORRENT SITES I WILL BE UPLOADING
THEM TO MOST MUSIC SITES WHEN I CAN GET ROUND TO IT THE REASON FOR THIS
IS I HAVE NOTICED IN THE PAST SOME HAVE BEEN UPLOADED WITH FILES CHANGED ETC
DOING THIS CAUSES CONFUSION WITH THE TORRENT.
All show are RAW versions with little or no tampering with the sound

I have now up-dated my tape decks for transfering recordings from audio tapes to my PC. I am now
using the following decks
Either
Nakamichi 1000ZXL Gold Edition Or
Nakamichi Dragon

Both theses decks are considered to be the best Tape decks ever made both have auto tape Azimuth
Alinement which will be used on all transfers. Both Decks have been Up-dated and serviced by
trained Nakamichi specialists.
I have for the past 6 month been trying out and expermenting with theses decks and
they are well worth the money amazing sound ( And should be for the money they cost ).
All the tape transfers that are done through my Yamaha Reciever are done via the pure direct
button ( all the displays on the reciever and tape deck are switched off ). so there is then no
interferance via the electrical circuritry.

On to the show for your enjoyment Davros archives presents :-

so ive marked this source 1 i will put the other source up in a few month time.

This is the Second night of 3 in N.Y.C for these they brought the orchestra back after the disaster of
the first 11 shows of the tour.
The quality is Very Good.

Many many thanks to the trader for sending me a copy & the person who recorded the show

As Usual Please dont convert to mp3 ( only for your own use if you do ) Please Keep all the info files
md5 etc in the folder so that other collectors know which version this is etc and  most of all
DO NOT SELL.

PLEASE NOTE.

This series is from my own personal collection they are NOT SOURCED FROM ANY CDRs /
OTHER TORRENT SITES ETC.
They are from recordings that i traded for between 20 - 35 years ago on audio tape as stated above
they have all been boxed up for the past 20 or so years.
This is the first time any of them have been Digitally transfered and torrented. All i am doing to the
recordings in nero wave editor is inproving the volume ( if low),
also equallizing the left and right channel where needed. Removing hiss etc ( If i can ).
Recordings in this series that have a generation linage are the correct linage as to what i was told when
i was sent the recordings. Most of the traders i traded with where well known traders so i have no
reason to believe they are not the true Linage if i had any doubt to the linage at the time i did not
write it down on the tape so all the low generation recordings in this series have a well known and
correct linage.

Please do not remaster any of theses If you wish to do remastering of this source find yourself a
better quality version and remaster that.
This version is how i remembered hearing it all them years ago and how it sounded when it was
recorded the way it should be heard.

THIS IS FOR SOME PEOPLE WHO ALWAYS HAVE TO PUT THERE TWO PENITHWORTH IN
AND ARE NOT SATISFIED.
I PUT SAMPLES UP TO EVERY RECORDING I UPLOAD MOST PEOPLE 99% ARE SATISFIED
I PUT THE SAMPLES UP SO YOU CAN HEAR THEM BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD THEM IF
YOU DONT LIKE WHAT YOU HEAR ITS SIMPLE YOU DONT HAVE TO DOWNLOAD IT.
I OR OTHER UPLOADERS ON THESE SITES DO NOT HAVE TO SPEND TIME AND EFFORT
RECORDING THESE SHOW ON A PC ETC TO UPLOAD THEM  BUT WE DO AND DO IT
GLADLY SO THAT OTHER TRADERS CAN HAVE THE SHOWS ETC AND ENJOY THEM.
I HAVE NEVER SAID THE SHOWS I PUT UP ARE PREFECT IN ANY WAY BUT I DO THEM
TO THE BEST OF MY ABILLITY IF YOU DONT LIKE IT DONT DOWNLOAD THEM.

THATS MY MOAN FOR THE DAY SORRY LOL

Please also buy the bands offical stuff and support them etc.
Thanks to all the Artists for there great music and to all the traders for keeping live music alive.

Presence's Notes: A completely different transfer of the cassettes mastered personally. The cassettes are not in the best shape and were baked to prevent further excessive oxide shedding, squealing and playback speed issues for this transfer. Both cassettes were also without the benefit of their pressure pads, which were repaired before playback.

An excellent release from the cdr label Beelzebub.   It's a tough , kick ass concert .... a bit raw at times, with a somewhat wild and edgy feel to it.  There are a couple blunders here and there, Plant sings the last verse of Heartbreaker just before the key change to the guitar solo but he recovers okay and Jimmy has a rather large clam early in SIBLY but proceeds to play one of the most impassioned versions from the tour. Plant's voice is just amazing , and the band's interaction is so spontaneous and fresh sounding.  The crowd were apparently a little rowdy, (good ol' Beantown) and the tension was apparent. Plant makes several comments during the show to try to cool off the crowd and security. The crowd around the taper also have a case of the "clap" which gets annoying at times....especially on What Is....and Moby D. The sound quality of this source is quite good, better to my ears than Come Back to Boston which may come from a different source(?).  Beelzebub has a tendency to over EQ their releases sometimes to the point of distortion but they didn't overdo it this time. The remastered tape sounds clear and strong, very dynamic and full from top to bottom.
Enjoy!!
